Just drop them off at Dogtopia and you can watch through live webcam feeds all day.hp-doyouknow

Dogtopia is located all over the country but the location in the Maryland area is located in Clarksville.  During Dog Daycare at Dogtopia, your pup will be placed in a play group that is appropriate for their size and temperment.

They also offer overnight stays and a dog spa which provides many services such as shampooing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning.  If you never get the opportunity to treat your pet to a stay at Dogtopia, you can always shop for them in the boutique.

At the boutique there toys, grooming supplies, food, and treats and of course — clothes to dress your best friend up in.

Hopefully Otto and I can make a trip there, but only if he’s a good boy this week.

“Wine & Wag”

It’s a little obvious that those of us, who have special pets, love them.  In addition to loving my Otto, and my fiancé of course, I also love wine.

This week the Maryland SPCA is celebrating 140 years of caring at Maryland Historical Society, located at 201 W. Monument Street in Baltimore. An exhibit will be on display from April 1 through June 28 and highlights the history of the organization and is sponsored by Bravo Health.

A “Wine and Wag” reception will be held on Friday, May 8 from 6pm to 9pm.  Tickets are $30 per person in advance and $35 at the door and can be purchased online or by calling 410-235-8826, ext. 135.

I think this is a great way to raise money and awareness and support for the Maryland SPCA.

Boarding Your Poo

mailgooglecomThis weekend I couldn’t take Otto with me to the beach so I left him with my roommate. Had she not been available to watch my little baby, I would have had to board him.

I really enjoyed having my roommate watch him because he was already comfortable in our apartment, she could call me anytime with questions, and she sent me tons of picture messages of Otto and what they were doing!

But I did do some research when I got back from my trip this weekend, just in case that situation should arise when I had no one to watch him for me and he couldn’t come.

Here is a google map of the places to board your dog. As a pup owner you have many options, and are not required to put your dog in a kennel while you are away. Places in the Maryland area range from pet spas and luxury boarding to staying at the home of someone.

Summer Products for Your Poo!

This week’s tips were about keeping your poo cool in warm weather. So I knew there had to be pup products that are designed just for this purpose and I found Dog Shade and Dog Summer Cooling Productp_7769_fs8730zs

Personally, the only product I could see myself utilizing would be the crate fan.
It is powered by a battery and attaches to almost every crate. It has two speeds and lasts up to 100 hours of use.

I think it would be very useful for driving Otto around in the summer if he is in the backseat in his crate.

It only costs $12.95 so I think for the amount of time Otto and I would be using it it would be worth the investment.

Check out some of the other products such as the dog boots and the pet fountain, maybe your poo could use a summer surprise!

Your Poo Tip of The Week!

While home over spring break I taught Otto how to run on a treadmill.

It is important for Poo’s to get enough exercise and there is a facility in Crownsville, MD called the Canine Fitness Center that offers swimming and other fun ways to keep your pup in good health. Other services include acupuncture, massages for your dog, and an underwater treadmill! I have never heard of this kind of exercise for dogs but I guess there is everything for everyone these days.

According to Country Pups, “The Yorkie Poo does not require a lot of exercise. Most of its exercise requirements can be met through indoor activity, but Yorkie Poos love going on walks with their owner and regular play time outdoors, and have enough stamina to come alongside for a longer jog.”

Otto loves to go on walks, especially when he is in New Jersey and can go with my parents two labs. He gets very tired afterward and is a great way to have him expend some energy.

Poo Webcams!

I originally got a webcam to keep in touch with my deployed Fiance, although we only used it once while he was in country.   Apparently Charm City Networks could read my mind and developed a Dog Webcam that allows you to keep an eye on your pup at all times!

All you need is computer with Internet access and a browser and your separation anxiety from missing your Poo will forever be eliminated!

Chris Whong is the president of Charm City Networks and developed the technology to combatant a problem of his own.  In an article by the Baltimore Dog Magazine Whong states, “This webcam service came out of a personal need. I had a brand new puppy, a Puggle [a Pug-Beagle mix] named OP, and I worked too far to come home at lunch. I set up a webcam that kept me a little entertained at work and let me know if he was upset, or sleepy or happy and what to expect when I got home.”

Whong is creating a voice activated feeder as well.  It seems technology is affecting the Poo world as well!

Looking to adopt a new friend for your Poo? Starting April 11th the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter is waving all adoption fees for pets five years or older and all other adoptions are only $40!

The event is called “Get Showered with Love” and runs from the 11th through the 25th. You can visit BARCS at 301 Stockholm St or view over 300 animals on their site.

I would love to get a friend for Otto, he loves to play with my parents two Labs but I do not have the space in my tiny apartment. My Fiance,  who got me Otto, wants to get a Husky maybe another adoption event we can look into it.

Look at this cake from The Pretentious Pooch!

The Pretentious Pooch is a boutique located on Cathedral Street in Baltimore. Don’t let the four foot crystal chandelier fool you, they have everything for every kind of dog, and every owner’s wallet. Some items include Swarovski crystal collars and Italian fleece-lined raincoats. In 2007 the Pooch boutique was noted in the City Paper as being the Best Dog Store and in 2006 the same paper noted The Pretentious Pooch the Best Place to Treat Your Pet Like a Spoiled Brat.

Taking your Poo to a dog park can be a fun day for the both of you.  Dog Park USA is a great site and very helpful for tips about taking your dog to a dog park and for dog parks in your area.

There are many dog parks in Maryland and one of the most popular is Robert E Lee Park.  Otto and I have yet to visit this park but we plan on going this weekend so I’ll keep you updated next week as to how it went!

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when taking your dog to a dog park!

  • Make sure to clean up after your dog! Don’t forget your POOper scooper!
  • Don’t forget some water, and a leash for your dog.
  • Don’t let your pet wander to fair away and always pay attention to your surroundings!
  • For your first trip, choose an off peak day so your pet gets used to the area without too much distraction!
